Aquaclear 70 Powerhead - A570
Hagen Aquaclear Powerheads have a number of distinguishing features that sets them apart from traditional Powerheads, including reverse flow. Each Powerheads is delivered complete with an Aquarium Rim Attachment, Venturi Valve, Air Hose, Venturi, Adaptor Cone and Sucker attachments. During conventional operation water is drawn from under the Undergravel Filter Plate and exhausted through the Powerhead. Water is drawn through the gravel above, nourishing and oxygenating the bacterial populations comprising the biological filter. Increased flow allows more concentrated bacterial populations and more powerful removal of nitrite and nitrate. When operating in reverse flow, water is drawn directly from the aquarium by the powerhead, and forced down the riser stem and below the undergravel filter plate. The water then passes upward through the gravel layer feeding and oxygenating vital bacterial colonies from below. The biological filter develops from the bottom up. Reverse flow helps to keep the substrate cleaner by keeping debris near the top layer. Since the water is forces evenly through an unobstructed bottom plate, there is much less possibility of dead spots to go anaerobic.
The Hagen Aquaclear Powerhead 70 is suitable for aquariums between 40 and 70 US Gal (152 - 265 litres); and has a flow rate of 400 US Gal (1 514 litres) per hour
