Velda Crystal Clear 2500ml - 120035
In ponds, of which the natural equilibrium is not optimum, often explosive growth of floating algae occurs. Frequently newly sunk ponds are involved, however, it may also happen to existing ponds. Crystal Clear makes the green, turbid water in these ponds limpid.
The activity of Crystal Clear is based on a completely harmless reaction, which makes turbidity of the water in any form coagulate. The most suitable period to sink or renew garden ponds is autumn. Owing to the fading daylight, algae will hardly grow in this period, as a result of which the water will remain clear. Besides, it is also important, that the pond water has time enough till spring to regain a certain bacterial equilibrium. Now, if during the months of March / April a sufficient number of real water plants, like hornwort, pond weed and frogbit are set in a pond, the water will remain clear, because bacteria and water plants supply a natural equilibrium.
In practice, however, ponds are usually sunk or cleaned in spring or in summer and filled with fresh water. The consequence is, that owing to a lacking bacterial equilibrium and under the influence of the intensiveness of the sunshine in spring and in summer, floating algae will colour the water green usually within 14 days. These microscopically small floating algae make a turbid green slurry of the pond water. For the fauna (fish, frogs, larvae, etc.) this green water has no disadvantage consequences. For water plants, however, this is disastrous. A clear natural pond is just maintained by proper plant growth. Crystal Clear quickly makes the green, turbid water limpid again.
